Choosing the Right Bundle or BOM Type
If you are unsure which type applies to your product, answer the three questions below. Each path leads to a clear recommendation.
The Three Questions
Question 1: Do you physically assemble the product from components?
Does your team combine multiple physical items to create the product?
- No → Virtual Bundle
- Shopify or your bundle app handles the inventory deduction at order creation
- No BOM setup needed in Synplex
- Yes → Go to Question 2
Question 2: Do you assemble before or after the customer orders?
Do you build stock in advance and sell from that finished stock?
- Before (build in batches, hold finished goods) → Go to Question 3
- After (build only once an order arrives) → Assembly-to-Order
- Create a BOM (type: Assemble-to-order) in Synplex
Question 3: Does the finished product have its own SKU with real inventory?
Is the assembled product stored and tracked as its own SKU?
- Yes → Pre-assembly Kit
- Create a BOM (type: Pre-assembled) in Synplex
- Raise Production Orders to build and track stock
- No → Assembly-to-Order
- Create a BOM (type: Assemble-to-order) in Synplex
